Sources

A source is a media server or library that LatestArr checks for recently added items. You can connect as many as you like, then choose which ones feed each newsletter.

Kavita, Komga, Calibre-Web, Immich, and others are under consideration. Want one? Open an adapter request .

“Needs testers” means the source hasn’t been confirmed on enough real setups yet. If you run one, a report, good or bad, helps: #196  for Jellyfin and Emby, or #244  for Plex, BookLore, Grimmory, and Audiobookshelf.

Adding a source

Every source asks for the same basics, plus its own credentials:

  • Name: anything you like, e.g. “Home Jellyfin”.
  • Base URL: the address LatestArr uses to reach the server’s API, e.g. http://192.168.1.20:8096. A sub-path behind a reverse proxy works too, e.g. https://example.com/tautulli. Trailing slashes are ignored.
  • Public URL (optional): see below.
  • Credentials: an API key, token, or username and password, depending on the source.

Use Test connection before saving. It calls the source’s API straight away, so a wrong URL or key shows up now rather than on the first scheduled send.

When you edit a source, credentials are replaced as a set. Fill in every credential field, or leave them all blank to keep the current ones.

Public URL

Items in the email link back to your server so people can open them. By default those links use the Base URL, which is often an address recipients can’t reach: a LAN IP, a Tailscale address, or an API host like Tautulli that isn’t what you want people to click.

Set Public URL to the address your recipients can reach, e.g. https://plex.example.com. It’s used for item links and for the design’s Where to watch buttons; a source without a Public URL gets no button. API calls and poster downloads still go to the Base URL.

Posters

LatestArr downloads each poster itself, using the source’s credentials, and embeds it in the email as an attachment. Your internal URLs and API tokens never appear in the sent email. Posters are resized to keep emails small. If a poster can’t be fetched within 10 seconds, or it’s larger than 20 MB, that item goes out without it rather than holding up the send.

Importing users

Plex, Tautulli, Jellyfin, Emby, Audiobookshelf, and RomM can hand their user lists to LatestArr as recipients. See Importing users.
